You set aside a 30 min period and say. "I'm going to play with you for 30 minutes and then you will need to play by yourself because I have work to do."
Any crying or fussing thereafter you ignore and go about your tasks.
I just happened upon your blog. Being a coffee-lover your name got my attention. I am a homeschooling mom of 3 myself. To answer your question, No. I will take special times and play with them, but it is not an all day thing or an everyday thing for that matter. Having my 3rd child broke me from the guilt of feeling like I constantly had to play with them all the time. I will take them swimming or we will all play a board game together or Wii Fit together. I LOVE to read to them. As far as playing though, I let them play with one another. If I ever do play with them a whole lot, I feel it is almost like a drug -the more I play, the more they demand I play.
I married to the rugged man of my dreams, and have 3 little people in my house who call me mom. I just went back to work full time in the corporate world while my husband came home to raise our little ones. I love life, family, and coffee. My newest obsession is running.

No way! I just tell him I need "mommy time" and he usually leaves me alone!!! I get tired of playing baseball all day everyday...
Yes, every single waking moment I am playing with my children. It's my belief that if you are not then you are a horrible mother!!! NOT!!!!

Or send them to me and I will play with them.
Love,
Your Mom
Love Tricia's comment.
The older they get the more actively they entertain each other. These days I mostly just referee.
NO WAY! I do play with mine sometimes but in the summer, they're pretty good about entertaining each other.
